Liverpool vs Atalanta: Reds slump to 0-3 defeat in Europa League
Klopp's side outplayed by visitors in Anfield encounter
Liverpool suffered a disappointing 0-3 defeat to Atalanta in their UEFA Europa League clash at Anfield on Thursday night.
The Reds were outplayed by the visitors, who took the lead through Duvan Zapata in the 33rd minute. Luis Muriel doubled the advantage just before half-time, and Zapata sealed the victory with another goal in the 56th minute.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp made five changes to the team that beat Wolves in the Premier League on Sunday, with Kostas Tsimikas, Fabinho, Thiago Alcantara, Darwin Nunez and Roberto Firmino all coming into the starting lineup.
However, the Reds were unable to find their rhythm against an Atalanta side that was well-organized and clinical in attack. Liverpool had plenty of possession but struggled to create clear-cut chances, while Atalanta looked dangerous every time they went forward.
The defeat is a major setback for Liverpool, who were hoping to make a strong start to their Europa League campaign. It also raises questions about Klopp's team selection and tactics.
Liverpool will now have to regroup quickly as they prepare for a Premier League clash with Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday.
