A Modern Approach to Classic Interiors
Preserving the Past
Black lacquered Chinese trunks with intricate bronze clasp detailing and bespoke cabinetry adorned with hand-painted florals are just a few of the rich details that define the latest project from interior designer and blogger Christine Dovey.
Dovey's clients, a couple with a passion for travel and collecting, tasked her with creating a home that showcased their cherished finds while also providing a comfortable and stylish living space. Dovey accomplished this by seamlessly blending antique pieces with modern elements, resulting in a home that feels both timeless and fresh.
Elevating the Ordinary
In addition to incorporating the clients' existing furniture, Dovey also designed several custom pieces for the home.
The master bedroom features a bed frame upholstered in a luxurious velvet fabric and flanked by nightstands with built-in LED lighting.
The living room showcases a custom sofa with deep navy upholstery and brass accents, paired with vintage armchairs and a mid-century coffee table.
A Breath of Fresh Air
The home's exterior received an equally stunning transformation. The remodel included the construction of a new elevated roof deck with a custom spiral staircase and penthouse. The deck offers breathtaking views of the city skyline and provides an ideal space for entertaining guests.
Whether you're saving space or highlighting a room's architecture, there are plenty of ways to incorporate built-in storage solutions into your home. Here are a few ideas to get you started:
- Add built-in shelves to a wall to display books, artwork, or other collectibles.
- Install drawers under a bed to store bedding, linens, or seasonal items.
- Create a built-in bench with storage in the entryway or mudroom to keep shoes, bags, and other essentials organized.
- Utilize the space under a staircase by building a series of drawers or shelves.
- Add a pull-out pantry to a kitchen or bathroom to maximize storage space.
