Jade Carey: The American gymnast who keeps getting better
From the Olympics to the NCAA, Carey is proving that she's one of the best in the world
Jade Ashtyn Carey was born on May 27, 2000, in Phoenix, Arizona. She is an American artistic gymnast who represented the United States at the 2020 Summer Olympics as an individual. Carey is an eight-time U.S. Women's National Gymnastics Team member and has trained at Arizona Sunrays since 2012. She currently competes for the Oregon State Beavers in the NCAA.
Carey made her international debut at the 2017 World Championships, where she helped the U.S. team win the gold medal. She also won the silver medal in the all-around and on the floor exercise. In 2018, Carey won the gold medal in the all-around at the Pacific Rim Championships. She also won the silver medal on the floor exercise and the bronze medal on the vault.
At the 2019 World Championships, Carey won the gold medal on the floor exercise and the silver medal in the all-around. She helped the U.S. team win the silver medal and qualified for the 2020 Summer Olympics as an individual.
At the 2020 Summer Olympics, Carey finished seventh in the all-around. She also competed on the floor exercise, where she finished fifth. After the Olympics, Carey took a break from gymnastics to focus on her mental health. She returned to competition in 2022 and won the gold medal on the floor exercise at the NCAA Championships. In 2023, she was named the Pac-12 Gymnastics Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
