Astros Designate Janson Junk For Assignment
Houston Astros Cut Ties With Starter After Woeful Stretch
Junk DFA'd in Favor of Roster Flexibility
The Houston Astros have designated right-handed starter Janson Junk for assignment, the team announced Tuesday. The move comes after Junk struggled to a 9.15 ERA in his last five starts, allowing 26 hits and 17 walks in 22 innings.
Junk, 29, was acquired by the Astros from the Los Angeles Angels in 2021 and has been a solid contributor as a swingman. However, he has struggled to find his footing in the rotation this season, posting a 6.33 ERA in 10 starts.
The Astros are hoping that Junk can regain his form in a new environment. He has a career 4.63 ERA in 139 innings pitched in the majors.

Abreu to Join Bullpen
Abreu, 26, has a 2.84 ERA in 21 appearances for Sugar Land this season. He has struck out 29 batters in 22 innings.
Junk's Future Uncertain
Junk now has seven days to be traded or claimed on waivers by another team. If he clears waivers, he will be outrighted to Triple-A Sugar Land.
