Knicks Sign Free Agent G Landry Shamet to One-Year Deal

Knicks Bolster Backcourt with Shamet Signing

The New York Knicks have signed free agent guard Landry Shamet to a one-year deal, the team announced Thursday. Shamet, a 25-year-old sharpshooter, is expected to provide the Knicks with a much-needed boost in backcourt depth and shooting.

Shamet's Career and Accomplishments

Shamet, a product of Wichita State University, was selected by the Philadelphia 76ers with the 26th overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft. He has since played for the Los Angeles Clippers, Brooklyn Nets, and Phoenix Suns.

Shamet is known for his exceptional shooting ability, having shot 40.9% from three-point range in his career. He is also a solid defender, averaging 1.2 steals per game.

Knicks' Need for a Sharpshooter

The Knicks have been in dire need of a consistent three-point threat for several seasons. Last season, they ranked 29th in the NBA in three-point shooting percentage (33.0%).

Shamet's arrival should help address this issue. He has shot over 40% from deep in each of his first four NBA seasons, including 44.3% from long range with the Suns last year.

Shamet's Role with the Knicks

Shamet is expected to play a significant role in the Knicks' rotation next season. He could start alongside Jalen Brunson at shooting guard or come off the bench as a microwave scorer.

Either way, Shamet's shooting ability will be a major asset for the Knicks, who hope to build off their disappointing 35-47 record last season.
