England Vs Iceland Euro Lineup

England Lose Pre-Euro 2024 Warm-up Match to Iceland

1-0 Defeat at Wembley Stadium

Gareth Southgate Names Final 26-Man Squad

England's preparations for Euro 2024 hit a sour note on Friday night as they suffered a 1-0 defeat to Iceland in their final warm-up match at Wembley Stadium. Jon Dagur Thorsteinsson's goal proved the difference as England produced a lackluster performance.

The defeat follows a 3-0 win over Bosnia on Monday, and Southgate has now named his final 26-man squad for the tournament. However, the result raises concerns about England's form ahead of their opening Euro 2024 match against Croatia on June 13.

Iceland, who failed to qualify for Euro 2024, put in a solid performance and fully deserved the victory. England, on the other hand, never really got going and were second best throughout the match.

"We didn't perform as well as we can," Southgate said after the match. "We made too many mistakes and weren't clinical enough in front of goal. I'm disappointed with the result, but it's important that we learn from this and improve before the tournament.

Despite the defeat, Southgate insisted that he is confident in England's chances at Euro 2024.

"We have a talented squad, and I believe that we can go far in the tournament," he said. "This was just a setback, and we will use it to make us stronger."
